The CPU will have the Torpedo boat's AI fire what weapons it chooses and when. Lock position, Fire on this enemy, Move to this point, dock here, etc.¿ You can't for example order your Torpedo boat to fire torpedos at an enemy ship if the Torpedo boat is not your main ship. You can't group ships into an attack wing, and can only give general orders to your lesser ships. You can only check weapon/ship status on your main ship. I found that quite frustrating, especially when you have different parts of your fleet far from each other. When you have a fleet, about mission 3 or so, you will find that selecting one of your ships immediately focuses on it.
Right click to focus on it, roll the mouse wheel forward/ back for zooming in and out, etc. ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ Now when you have a single ship, if you choose to use the "tutorial" you'll find that the controlls apear VERY similar to HOMEWORLD and the sequels. By video game standards though you get quite a bargain. I would NOT recommend it for those without ALOT of patience. (Can't say any more without ruining the ending.) While I found the game enourmously enjoyable. The second is the final battle with the Procyon fleet commander. The first is at the very beginning of a new campaing, where Admiral Amelia brings the player up to speed by describing the new Ironclad menace. The dialog and cut scenes are entertaining though, and there are 2 cutscene videos worth watching. There are various parts in the game where the action bogs down and you have to sit back as your fleet takes its sweet time moving from one point to another. This game is NOT for those who want instant gratification. You don't have to see the movie to enjoy the game, but I would recommend doing so, as there were a few places where I was left scratching my head wondering what Jim (your character)¿ was talking about. ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ This game picks up right where the movie "Treasure Planet" by Disney leaves off.
